Raising the Timberframe

The timberframe arrival

The arrival of over 100 timber frames onsite marked a significant and carefully managed step in our project. Transported from Napier to Queenstown the delicate frames were left uncovered to allow for close monitoring during the handling by multiple forklifts, ensuring they arrived in pristine condition, with only a few minor tear-outs. Once onsite, each piece is placed into the puzzle to create the artpiece.

Oiling and Chamfering

On Day 1, we chamfered the corners of every frame, using a router to remove sharp edges and prevent chipping. This added robustness to the structure while achieving a refined finish. Following the chamfering, we carefully oiled each piece, enhancing the timber’s durability and giving it a rich, polished look that’s ready for the next phase. With this attention to detail, we assembled five structural portals by day’s end.

The raising of the Timberframe

Day 2 saw the entire structure standing strong, fully erected in just under nine hours.

Our next step was to instal the Select SIP panels but a delay in the delivery altered our approach.  We adjusted the project timeline to focus on framing the mid-floor, laying down flooring, and completing the downstairs internal framing, keeping the project moving forward smoothly.

Our approach—hands-on and adaptable—is about more than just building structures. It’s about crafting spaces with care, innovation, and a commitment to exceptional craftsmanship at every turn.
